[WI] How To Master Self-Discipline

Self-discipline is defined as the ability to control one’s feelings and overcome one’s weaknesses.

It is a powerful attribute, however it is challenging to master it.

Self-discipline can be described as the ability to do whatever it takes to overcome any challenge or obstacle to reach your goals.

Self-discipline makes one do things when it is inconvenient or uncomfortable.

You will have to say “no” to things you would rather be saying “yes” to, such as sleeping late or watching television,  but self-discipline gives you the power stand up for yourself.

Most people would prefer to have more self-discipline, yet few people know how to get it.

It’s easy to start your day with all the good intentions in the world, but even easier to shy away from them as the day carries on because of everyday challenges, difficult issues, work or personal stress, or those ever present distractions. Luckily there are a few strategies you can incorporate on a daily basis to become an absolute master in the discipline of self-discipline.

Here are some easy-to-follow techniques to help you improve your self-discipline:

  1. Be committed: Are you really unhappy about not having more self-discipline? Are you committed to improve on this? It’s easy to say you want to be more self- disciplined, but are you? Many people say they honestly don’t mind being the way they are.
  • Be honest with yourself. You cannot lie to yourself. If you really want to have a better life, it will take time and effort, but it can be done.
  • The only way to succeed is to remain committed to the cause.
  1. Put it in writing: Writing down your ideas – especially your goals – will help you clearing your mind so that you can design an action plan that you will find easy to stick to.
  • Write down everything you want to improve – your financial situation, your relationships, your career, your studies, your health. Include the changes you would like to see, such as spending less on junk food, looking for a better job, losing weight, then stipulate what you think the best way is for you to make it happen yourself.
  1. Get help: One easy way of pushing yourself to make any positive change in your life, is not keeping it under wraps. Put it out in the open – tell people that you are in the process of making a few changes to and boost your self-discipline.
  • Don’t be ashamed that you were not more self-disciplined right from the start. You are who and what you are, but you can change it. The important thing is that you are taking positive action and telling others about it! Those who love you – friends, family, partnerships and those you are in relationship with – will be there to help and support you and eventually celebrate your successes.
  • They are your support group that will also help you get through the rainy days and get you back in the swing of things and on your way to achieve whatever goals you have.
  1. Believe in yourself. You should have faith in yourself, knowing that by mastering your self-discipline, you will be more able to do anything! Like with everything else, there will be good and bad days, but as long as you remain focused and committed, you will be able to strengthen your self-discipline.
  • Don’t forget to focus on the big picture – your ultimate dream – and concentrate the changes your body and mind will experiences, and how your energy will improve when you are committed to anything.

Others admire those of us who are self-disciplined. They can stick to a schedule and for others it seems they never lose focus on what they want to achieve. They make better decisions, are wiser, take action when they need to, and manage to achieve their goals with relative ease.

Use these strategies in your everyday life and see how they soon become habits.

Self-discipline is something that can become your way of life – all you need is to really want it!

Thanks Hannes. I use HOW TO HAVE FUN to stay excited with whatever I do, as it keeps me focussed and committed automatically. The feeling of emotions is the strongest to change the subconcious mind. I see it is in second place after the formula for riches and long before making a profit.
