[WI] Be The Example Of What You Expect From Others

Personal growth is not easy. And having people around you who you would have liked to become more like you, requires that much more effort. It might not be possible to avoid working with people having habits you don’t like, however, you are totally able to focus your energy on being the best person you can be.

When you put your back into it and you perform at the best level possible, you will feel good about yourself and how you are living. By being the change you want to see in others, or being the example of what you expect from others, you will make your own life a much happier one.

When you are a happier, more satisfied person, other people will notice and they’ll want what you have. The old saying ‒ Monkey See, Monkey Do ‒ can become a very positive attribute when you lead by example, as you will then easily be able to “convert” some people to move over to your way of thinking and your way of doing things.

How To Use Physical Changes To Help Others Become Successful

People who are surly or drawn into themselves at the office, something as simple as an unhealthy diet may very well be a cause. But it’s easy for you to use this and set an example for those associates. That definitely does not mean you have to push the latest diet craze or harass your co-workers about their eating habits or physique. All you should do is ‒ yet again ‒ just lead by example and live your life in a healthy, positive manner. Your work associates will notice and might want to follow suit.

Instead of going for a pub lunch, try to organize some healthy activities for your co-workers. You might already be doing certain activities as a group outside of work, but you can move carefully toward more healthful activities ‒ think along the lines of a company four-ball, action-cricket or regular gym sessions with colleagues. Nobody needs to run the Comrades or London or New York marathon to be healthy ‒ it can even be something as relaxed as a walk to and from a lunch venue.

If you are able to get your co-workers involved, you can effect lasting, positive change.

How To Bring About Mental And Emotional Changes To Bring Joy To The Office

  1. Play soft, soothing background music. Peaceful and relaxing music works best ‒ not the latest clubbing sounds. The music should be a genre that most people will enjoy. Keep in mind that not everyone is able to tune out background noise, so the volume must be low and the music should mostly be without singing.
  2. Encourage others and always speak well of people. If you don’t have anything good or positive to say about someone, rather say nothing. You may even have colleagues you don’t really care for, but that is no reason to bad-mouth them. Find something nice to say to them or say about them. If you really can’t, keep your mouth shut. Gossiping solves nothing.
  3. Carefully pick your battles. Nothing always goes the way exactly the way you planned. There might be times when you have to stand up for yourself and what you believe in. That can be done in a non-confrontational way. Keep in mind the interests and needs of the people you work with. Don’t embarrass them. Treat them with dignity and be fair. Don’t talk behind their backs, and NEVER attack them personally – especially not when it is about work.
  • If the battle isn’t one you really have to win, let it slide…

In the end ‒ once you’re more relaxed and happy, those around you will feel more relaxed and happier as well. They will realize they don’t need to be short-tempered or irritated to get things done. A positive attitude is a great message to send out to your colleagues ‒ and the world for that matter ‒ as a whole. If you are more positive, others will feel the same, and you will be able to spread a bit of happiness much further than just your immediate surroundings.

When at work, speak and interact as gently as possible. Be firm, but do it gently. You know that you have good intentions, but it might not be the case with everyone else. Never criticize people out in the open or absolutely demand that they do things your way. But being peaceful and happy, others will eventually follow.
